SRD STRONGLY CONDEMNS SUNDAY’S ATTACK ON CIVILIANS IN DOUMA MARKETPLACE
Overland Park, Kan. (Aug. 17, 2015) — U.S.-based nonprofit organization Syria Relief and Development has strongly condemned Sunday’s airstrike by the Syrian government on the Douma Marketplace northeast of Damascus in which 100 people were killed and more than 200 wounded in the densely-populated civilian area. The attack was the worst in the conflict’s recent history and also decimated numerous buildings via nine missiles; as each missile hit the ground, ensuing panic and chaos prevented people from being able to search for their loved ones.
SRD calls on the United Nations and international community to demand an end to the use of barrel bombs and indiscriminate aerial attacks immediately.
Syria Relief and Development (SRD) was founded in November 2011 in response to the humanitarian crisis inside Syria that occurred as a result of conflict. Since then, SRD has worked to provide food and medical aid to Syrian families in need. SRD continues to work inside Syria and in neighboring Jordan to help meet the needs of the Syrian people.
