The SRD healthcare system is driven by a comprehensive, preventative continuum of care, ensuring that patients receive services that address their physical and mental well-being. Neglected issues have an impact on other aspects of health and ultimately bring down a once-thriving society.
The grave healthcare crisis has two interconnected factors. One, hospitals have been consistently attacked. Two, Syria is the most dangerous place on Earth to be a healthcare provider. Syria has experienced a sharp decline in the number of healthcare professionals. As a result, the country’s largest humanitarian need is access to quality healthcare.
Primary Healthcare (PHC)
Primary health care (PHC) centers were established to offer services through 28 mobile health clinics. Primary health care facilities offer a wide range of services, including:
Outpatient Delivery Services (OPD)
Consultations and follow-up visits with medical professionals.
Immunization Services
Vaccination services are essential for resistance to infectious diseases. In accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and standards, SRD has committed to providing vaccines at its facilities or ensuring referral pathways in collaboration with other immunization agencies.
Communicable Diseases (CD) Management
Syria’s CD prevalence has increased as a result of poverty, broken water, sanitation, and hygiene systems, congested living conditions, inadequate health and hygiene education, and a general lack of PHC services available in communities.
Communicable diseases (CD) have the ability to transform into an epidemic in a short amount of time. Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of CDs are essential for the country’s survival.
Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Management
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases or slow to progress. The 4 main types of NCDs are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, and respiratory diseases. SRD focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating NCDs.

Reproductive & Pediatric Health
In 2021, SRD provided complete reproductive and pediatric healthcare through its network of six maternity and pediatric hospitals as well as reproductive care clinics located throughout Northern Syria. Women and children now have easy access to quality medical care.
Emergency Health
Access to urgent care is guaranteed by SRD’s Ambulance System, a network of 32 ambulances in Northern Syria.
SRD’s hospitals in Aleppo and Idleb are life-saving facilities that are crucial to our healthcare initiatives. Access to free, high-quality healthcare is made easier in Northern Syria by the facilities’ locations. These hospitals suffered several aerial assaults, yet the staff persisted and kept providing essential life-saving care. They offer services in internal medicine, pediatrics, general, orthopedic, and vascular surgery, OB/GYN, urology, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), psychiatric treatment, and other crucial aspects of critical care.
Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation care is typically required for injuries sustained in conflict. SRD’s Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Clinic was established to meet the demands of countless injured civilians.
Musculoskeletal injuries, cerebral palsy, amputation cases, brain/spinal injuries, burn wounds, speech and hearing therapy, and treatment for congenital abnormalities are among the specialty rehabilitation departments included in the Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Clinic.
Dialysis Services
Dialysis services are lifesaving treatments used to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney failure.

Al Fardos Maternity Hospital –
The hospital is located in Darat Azza, in the western countryside of Aleppo. The hospital provides services to 45 nearby towns. The hospital’s 63 employees provide medical care to 6,523 beneficiaries per month on average. Al-Fardos Maternity Hospital provides the following health sectors and services:

Kafar Safra Primary Healthcare Center –
The Kafr Qasrah Primary Healthcare Center is situated in Kafr Safra, an area of rural Aleppo. Each month, the center’s 14-person staff provides health services to 1,811 patients on average. Sectors and services include:

Karam Zeitoun Primary Health Care Center
SRD built the Karam Zeitoun Primary Health Care Center in northern Aleppo, in the Yazi Bag Camp. The center’s 16 staff members serve around 2,882 people in a single month. Sectors and services include:

Mare’s Medical Waste Incinerator Project –
The environment in Syria is contaminated with toxins and medical waste, which can cause serious and frequently deadly harm to people. In response, SRD built a medical waste incinerator in Mare, northern Aleppo. Mare was picked because of its location between the majorly populated regions in the north. Twenty medical facilities in northern Aleppo send their waste to the incinerator, including four important hospitals (Al Bab, Al-Ra’i, Azzaz, and Mare Hospitals).
Akhtarin Hospital –
SRD built a hospital in Akhtarin, which serves people from more than 60 villages and is regarded as the district hub. Each month, about 3,796 patients receive care, including 200 baby deliveries and 70 cesarean sections.
“The hospital has gone through different stages of development. It started as a health center in the first month of 2017. During March of the same year the maternity department was created. Next, the dialysis department was opened,” said Faisal Al Aboud, director of the hospital.
